| 4/9/2008 | Deuel Braves Tough Field in Atlanta |
The Seminole Pro Tour stopped at Atlanta's Mr. Cues II poolroom last weekend, and 48 of the best American players gathered for a shot at $8,000 in added money. Although the field was a tad smaller than usual, top names like Johnny Archer, Gabe Owen and Corey Deuel headlined yet another talented group at a Seminole event. From the start, Deuel was the man to beat. He didn't let an opponent past three games as he eased into the hot-seat match, where Jonathan Pinegar was waiting. Pinegar only had one tough match early on, outlasted Jason Roberts in his first match, 7-5. He was scheduled to play Mitch Yarborough on Sunday morning, but Yarborough had to forfeit due to ill health. In the hot-seat match, Deuel was tested early, but pulled away from Pinegar late for a 8-5 victory. On the left side, Larry Nevel was amending for a second-round loss. He strung together seven wins, including a pair of hill-hillers against Jason Richko and Jeremy Jones. He then sent Pinegar into third place with an 8-5 victory in the left-side final. Both Deuel and Nevel started out a bit tenative in the race-to-9 final. Deuel, however, would again pull away, polishing off his undefeated run with 9-6 win.
